Security in this context means institutional security, like the depositor protection granted in the event of bank bankruptcy. But security also means internal controlling systems, and external information and communication technology.
Read more hereLiberty is a reliable pensions partner – client funds are in safe hands. Client funds are invested with one or more banks or investment foundations. Strict controls and due diligence requirements in the acceptance, management, and transfer of client assets contribute to high quality standards and prevent possible misuse. The Liberty foundations are audited once a year by an independent auditing firm accredited with the regulatory authorities. The auditor is subject to supervision by Zentralschweizer BVG- und Stiftungsaufsicht, Lucerne. Liberty maintains a regular dialogue with its main partner banks with regard to their equity ratios and to ensure that the reliability of time-tested processes is periodically verified.
Deposits on vested benefit and pillar 3a accounts are covered by Swiss depositor protection. This means that deposits held with the Swiss office of a bank are covered by the depositor protection in the event the bank goes bankrupt. Up to CHF 100,000 per accountholder is guaranteed under such protection. Our clients and their deposits enjoy preferred ranking as privileged deposits within the meaning of Article 37a(1) of the Federal Banking Act (BankG/LB). This status does not apply to investments in securities such as mutual funds. These qualify as special assets and do not flow into the bankruptcy estate.

We have outsourced our entire ICT infrastructure (Information & Communications) to Econis AG. Econis is one of the leading providers of IT services in Switzerland. As part of this arrangement, we use various services managed by Econis on their secure service platform, such as the applications and terminal server, Windows 10 Clients, and email and security services.
Econis automatedly configures and monitors Liberty’s ICT infrastructure and operates a closed data network. Data storage and all other services are provided in two geographically separate data centres in Switzerland, around the clock, Swissness guaranteed. Both data centres satisfy the Federal Banking Commission’s high technical and security standards for financial service providers and IT security outsourcing requirements (99/2).
In 2021, Liberty Pension Ltd created LibertyGreen, the first sustainable 3a retirement savings foundation in Switzerland with an investment portfolio comprised only of companies meeting responsible environmental, social and governance standards. Read more hereStock investments are carefully selected in a standardised investment process. The focus is specifically on sustainability; several criteria are applied to ensure that even higher expectations are met in terms of security and returns.
The validation process includes negative screening with values- and ethics-based approaches, and a standards-based method involving at least three different criteria. If a prospective investment does not meet the criteria (negative screening), it is rejected. The same applies if the CO2 emissions cap is exceeded – accordingly, entire economic sectors are excluded from the LibertyGreen portfolio.
Conversely, the positive screening process identifies companies with positive ratings in terms of ESG performance. An A rating is the minimum threshold for LibertyGreen. Moreover, a company must have adequate market capitalisation to ensure that its securities are readily marketable.
